New Patio Door

Before the recent storm we decided to get a new patio door. The old door was starting to rot on the bottom on the outside and Chloe was chewing it up.

There is so much sun coming through that side of the house and it really heats things up in here. We decided to get doors that have blinds between the glass.

Yesterday the carpenter came to install my new door. I chose a french door.

Here are the before and afters.

You can see in this picture above the beautiful tree in bloom. This is one of the two trees we lost in the recent storm. The walls look yellow, but they are actually Malted Milk. This is the old back door.

This is another view before we put the new baseboard on. You can read more about the baseboard job here.

And these three below are the after pictures. You can see the new baseboard and I have the blinds down in the last picture.

This is just a before and after, side by side to see it better.

Now to get rid of the vertical blinds on the windows and make my roman shades and I'll be a happy camper.

Storm Damage 10 April 2013

We had a storm come through one evening with winds that measured 101 mph. Our town was hit, my neighborhood was hit, but my house was the only one on my street that was hit.

We lost a good part of our shingles, some siding and two large trees. My daughter's trampoline landed two houses down against their fence.

One large tall pine tree was uprooted and fell onto my fence, breaking it. Another beautiful tree at the corner of my deck was split in two. That is such a loss.

When we lost the shingles we got some water damage to the inside of our house. All three bedrooms and both bathrooms were affected.

We had workers come in and tear up the carpeting and padding and the linoleum in the bathroom. They placed huge noisy air moving machines and heaters to dry things up. It was so extremely hot in there. And we were unable to use those rooms, we slept on the couch and floor. In the drying out process, the wood got too dry and it warped in places. Now we wait and see if it can reabsorb moisture from the air and straighten out, at least that's what they're telling me.

Still waiting for the insurance to decide about the roof, since we just had a new roof put on about a year ago. We can't have anything fixed inside until the roof is finished and until time has passed to see if the wood will straighten out.

I'm just thankful that we are all ok.

My New Baseboards

I thought I would share a couple pictures of my baseboards. I found a wonderful tip on Pinterest on how to make your baseboards appear taller using paint and trim, so I thought I would give it a try. Here is my inspiration.

Here is a before picture.

These walls need help.

I decided to add corner blocks to my baseboards for a little extra. And here is the after (sorry it's a different wall).

The wall color is Malted Milk and the baseboards are a semi-gloss white. This wall will have my piano on it and it will hide that ugly phone jack, although I guess I could change it out.

I will post a picture of the whole room when it is finished.
